Dec. 6th, 2003 09:56 pmErynne and I had discussed things a bit before I smoked down to the town. She'd found herself in a body with real Wiccan power, so she said.
That raised some questions. (I knew magic can be inherited. That skill's - well, it's like singing. All the training in the dimension'd do no good if somebody was tone-deaf. Where I come from, a strong magic talent can make someone an aristocrat - and we can sometimes manipulate the exogamy to get that.)
The worry was that a Wiccan as strong as that could have stolen Erynne's body for her strength, or her speed, or her shape-changing (and maybe regarded it as expendable.) There were other dangers - the moon is inching towards full.
I'd waited until Erynne was asleep and then smoked down to the town looking for the Watcher. There were a lot of bodyswaps out there. There were a lot of people looking for that Watcher, too, but I could use the mojo, so I found him. (OK, it helped that he'd just come back to town.)
I just smoked in quietly. He made a lazy looking picture, sitting under his reading lamp, with a great tome open on his lap and a cup of tea in one hand. So I asked him what he was reading.
It was interesting. He was startled into a reflex jump but protected the book like a mother protecting her child. To do him justice, he was studying the problem, and he'd found a couple of possible cures already. (I want Erynne back, fast. So I accompanied him down to the Magic Box to pick up his props, (tryng to hide the fact that I was nearly ready to drag him there.)
