Silence

Tried a new breakfast cereal this morning, and that was the only change in my usual routine - at least, it was the only change that I'd made today

After I excercised I went to the telephone to arrange to take someone I know out dancing.

Tried to speak........ silence - no voice at all,

tried to sing ........... still silence - not a croak, zilch!

gargled with salt and water ..... still. no. voice!

gargled with Listerine ... Nada! Not a sound!! Nothing!!!

(thinks) Am I being punished for something??

(Thinks) OK, take a couple of deep breaths. Don't freak out, right? Just calm down! Breathe ........ Right.....

(Thinks) Now don't take this personally - just try to open communications, get the news on the street, and find out just what's going through, here. (Wondering how much personal magic is still working ..... deep breaths..... Don't freak out unless you know the worst. * Checks by changing color of shirt - gives silent sigh of relief as that works.*)

*Remembers having thought headcold was a curse, takes down medical encyclopedia. Can't work out whether laryngitis is a virus or a mojo, or whether it's both.*

Heads off to Willy's Bar for a drink or several! to try to find out what's going on.

Sweet! I've finally found you. Been looking for you everywhere... Are you ok?

You've made my headache a lot better...

Must have been dreadful for you not to be able to sing.

It was frightenin' - I thought someone had spelled me personally... It was a relief to reach Willy's and realise you all had it too...

That time of silence really threw me *laughs, but it's clearly faked*, Sam, your a Watcher - are there any charms that would stop me bein affected by stuff like that?

Date: 2003-03-21 01:34 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] joan-the-slayer.livejournal.com
It was very strange for all of us...thank goodness Sam was able to explain the cause...but I would suppose worse for you, since singing is your gig. *grin*

Sam found the cause? I'm impressed *slightly nervous chuckle* No wonder she isn't nervous of demons That's quite a lady - what else do they teach Watchers?

I'll look into it Sweet.

Thanks *not quite idly* They .. er.. teach Watchers much about demonology? - or do you just look it up as needed?

*raises eyebrow*

Is there something you want to tell me Sweet?

Most Watchers have a basic knowledge but some specialise in the subject like me.

Yes along with some other fields.

*turns, gesturing towards bottles on sidetable* Drink? I usually have Bacardi ,, er ,,, recently, but I have wines. *chuckles* Did you know many of the demon specialists?

Some of them.

It was just terrible...but at the same time, another day in Sunnydale. You know?

From: [identity profile] singindemonhq.livejournal.com
Did ...er ..you make much of a study of demons? *chuckles, wary definitely now, hands fidgiting*

Sometimes this place worries me. Did I tell you that we have it listed as a Helldimension?

Date: 2003-03-21 02:40 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] singindemonhq.livejournal.com
*laughs* Perhaps I should have told you that my people list earth as a hell-dimension - have you made a study of those?

Date: 2003-03-21 03:49 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] joan-the-slayer.livejournal.com
I've been starting to think of it as a hell dimension, too...

Date: 2003-03-21 03:52 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] singindemonhq.livejournal.com
I've had a bit of a reputation for taking on the trouble-spots, *laughs* but there's a bonus for Earth - and even I get worried by Sunnydals.

Hazard pay, eh? Well, that's something.

Date: 2003-03-21 04:22 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] singindemonhq.livejournal.com
Don't slayers get hazard pay? I should think you could hold out for a lot.

Date: 2003-03-21 04:24 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] joan-the-slayer.livejournal.com
Well, I don't know about Buffy, but I don't get paid at all. Why do you think I need the job at Willy's?

Date: 2003-03-21 04:31 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] singindemonhq.livejournal.com
*appears genuinely shocked* That's .. that's gloomy. You mean that you do all that and have to be a bouncer to earn a living? That's grim I suppose Sam is a Watcher as a kind of extra vocation, too? *looks very thoughtful, breaks out of the mood, laughs*

I'd offer you a job as a minion if you liked the idea of dancing - now that'd be a twist...

Date: 2003-03-21 04:35 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] joan-the-slayer.livejournal.com
*Laughs.* I think Sam probably got paid until she went rogue. No, sorry, I'd rather not be a minion of evil (no offense), I think I would end up even more confused than I am already. And I like working at Willy's, most nights it's a party.

Date: 2003-03-21 04:41 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] singindemonhq.livejournal.com
*laughs with genuine amusment* You're right, I guess - it wouldn't be suitable, but ....
I'd love to see the expression on some faces if you took that job, though. *sighs*

From: [identity profile] joan-the-slayer.livejournal.com
Heh, it would be pretty funny. Maybe they'd stop confusing me with you-know-who!

Date: 2003-03-21 04:51 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] singindemonhq.livejournal.com
*Laughing* now that I could truly gar-en-tee!
The slayer skills would sorta work, too, balance and timing and stuff, but there's a lot of difference between a choreographed fight and a real one.

Date: 2003-03-21 04:54 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] joan-the-slayer.livejournal.com
True, a real fight=not always pretty.

Date: 2003-03-21 05:03 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] singindemonhq.livejournal.com
Choreographed fights aren't necessarily pretty
*legs stretched out and drink held in both hands, thoughtful* but they always ought to be safe. Nobody ought to get hurt. All that movement -it's ... it deceives the eye; punches miss, kicks are inches from the person the dancer is supposed to be fightin'. Nobody gets hurt - it's drama...

You remember that Rogue Initiative thing?

From: [identity profile] singindemonhq.livejournal.com
There was a point in that where I was with a group who really were fighting their way out. I was useless. I never learned how to use a weapon - why would I need to? When things got really bad I landed one kick - it felt like it broke my leg! I wasn't balanced for the impact - it's not the same thing with dancin' - it nearly knocked me over. None of it was choreographed at all. I cannoned into someone on my own side and nearly brought both of us down, and got out first chance - dunno why I'm thinking of it... *gets up and goes for drink*.

Sweet, I think something's wrong with Evalon. The back door of her house just slammed shut, and I head a big thud.

Date: 2003-03-21 05:53 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] singindemonhq.livejournal.com
Is there any way she could have fallen - which room is it? Want me to smoke in?

Date: 2003-03-21 06:02 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] joan-the-slayer.livejournal.com
Moloch took over the security system in her house. Problem is, Yvette said there were traps of some sort, but that they didn't affect friends...but I think Moloch overrode the friends list, 'cause Evalon got shocked. So I don't know what might happen if you smoke in.

Date: 2003-03-21 06:08 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] singindemonhq.livejournal.com
Not good! Moloch has a lot of power anyway. Look what he does to computers! Are there any of Evalon's friends who we can reach that might help? I can smoke around to contact some.

Date: 2003-03-21 06:09 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] joan-the-slayer.livejournal.com
I was going to go to Willys and see if I could find anyone.

Date: 2003-03-21 06:12 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] singindemonhq.livejournal.com
Anyone I should contact? I wish we could get Xander. We need - Joan, we need the power to the house cut off!

Date: 2003-03-21 06:14 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] joan-the-slayer.livejournal.com
Good idea, but how do we do it without Moloch noticing?

Date: 2003-03-21 06:15 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] singindemonhq.livejournal.com
Joan, who could cut off power to the house? Could FW ring yvette to find out?

Date: 2003-03-21 06:17 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] singindemonhq.livejournal.com
That may depend on where the mains switches are - if there's an emergency outside rig.

Date: 2003-03-21 06:23 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] singindemonhq.livejournal.com
would Willy know any BURROWING demons, who could cut the mains cable under the street? With luck Moloch might even think he blew it by overloading it!

Date: 2003-03-21 06:38 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] joan-the-slayer.livejournal.com
Willy doesn't appear to be around, so I can't ask. FW showed up in my post, and might have some ideas, she knows computers.

OK, I'll smoke on over.
