He’d always had a way with words. His vocabulary could surprise them even now, and he’d been told that he’d be able to understand almost any language once his training was done. Maybe things would be different then, or when his talent matured. As it was he just stood, watching her, unable to find an answer.
One day he might be able to tell her that there was no way to stay, not for long. A hundred earth years or so was the most that he’d ever be able to manage at one time. His talent would have been destructive left in the raw, untrained state and once he was trained – he knew there wouldn’t be any way to stay in his home dimension.
One day he’d be able to sing an answer for her, with tricky double-rhymes and whatever beat took his fancy. But back then, with his talent newly diagnosed, all he could do was make a shrugging, dismissive gesture and watch her as she walked away.
