I'd thought one thing through while I was away. As soon as I got back I asked Erynne to wear an engagement ring. (I want people to know. I trust her - it's the males of the multiverse that I don't trust.) She agreed right away and I hardly got time to say hello before we were out shopping for it.

The one she liked isn't too bad for this dimension, and I guess it'll be noticed. (The salesman seemed to favour one in silver! I let my lycanthropic Little Bard try to find excuses before I asked for white gold to match my talisman. (I still wonder if platignum would last better. Didn't mention it, though. We can upgrade when it wears out.)

(Erynne wanted saphires, and those clash with the Talisman anyway. I gave that a bit of thought, and then glamored the talisman to match the ring, instead of the other way. Too many people can unexpectedly know too much about demonology and that might confuse them. The trouble is, that way she looks like a duchess out slumming.

I got her a CD, too. It was someone else's music, I hadn't written a word of it, but it it summed things up.)

When I first got back I told her I'd got plans to party real soon. We ended up going dancing practically everywhere that was open (which wasn't exactly what I'd meant, but this was a big day.) It seemed to be a night for celebrations. When fireworks started going off all over the place it just seemed appropriate, somehow.

They seem to have had fireworks for several days, since then - and we've been out entertaining ourselves ever since that started.It's been more fun than the old Sunnydale, that's for sure.

Yes. We--Corona de la Sangre--took that as our
clan sigil when we were named. It's for the members
of our family who aren't 'changers...

I'm kind of linked to Icewind too, in a way - but they didn't put this kind of mark on me. Is this for the people who marry in?

Well...I--let's say I get distracted sometimes
when I'm enjoying myself.
Clans can offer one of two bonds--one is for
close friends or allies...that'd
be the Outlier bond. Oath, but no physical signs.
Ties based on respect,mutual help or protection,
or unpaid debt of some kind a 'changer owes to
an outsider.

The Kin sigil is used to identify those who are
family members by adoption or marriage.

Then it's more likely that I was was bound by the first, but it could be the second - would that make things complicated? You were telling me about changers and territory....

It's permanent for as long as you choose it to be.

No, whatever the bond they accepted with you,
it's not counter to ours. If you had
loved a member of Icewind--or had promised
to marry anyone else, 'changer or not--the
brand simply wouldn't have taken hold.

Don't worry about it drawing attention. I know
it's clear to you, and would be to other Clan
members--possibly Icewind as well as Corona--
but no one else will see it unless they have
a powerful talent for magic. The kind
that comes along maybe once in a hundred
years.

*arms around you again* I won't be wishing that away -I don't know when we'll get a chance to use my talisman, not until we leave this dimension, I guess -but I married you under a waterfall in Arkadia, if not before. We just didn't have the ways to make it formal, and I guess we'll have to go through a few of those yet...
