I need to see the Bank Manager again. I was wondering if I could talk Erynne into coming through the portal with me, but she went out shopping quite early. That can mean that she won't be back for quite a while, and then she's tired. Maybe I should schedule a trip to London later - I don't think she's seen it yet. ..

*Opens door* ... and you are? *reads mental state* Erynne's brother? Come in ....

*Enters and shuts door behind him*
Yes, I'm Stephen. Pleased to meet you; I'm sorry it
couldn't be sooner. *looks around* Is Erynne here?
I'd--hoped to speak with you privately. *grins* And
I hope I'm not interrupting anything!

She's out, shopping again, I guess - although they gave her the damnedest hair-style and I know she wants to get it cut properly. What do you want to see me about?

*Leads way into lounge and sits down; hand hovers over bell to summon maid* Would you like some coffee or something?

Coffee would be fine. I drink mine black.*headshake*
Haven't wanted to sleep much lately. The dreams--
Sweet, first of all I wanted to apologize. Erynne
and my wife both gave me an earful when I said I was
a bit unsure about her marrying you. It's not intended
as an insult-- I can certainly understand your loving
her. And she must have seen something to make her trust
you that quickly. It's just--You know we've got a bad
situation here. Made me kinda paranoid. And--I need to
know what you and Erynne plan for the future.

It may not be fair to ask, but this concerns us too...

*rings for maid, orders one black coffee and one white, sugared, with Jaffa cakes* I'm not sure what you mean - Erynne and I plan to marry as soon as we can. *Touches arm in area of brand*, By some standards I guess we're already married.

That dream thing, is that the Lamia? Erynne had trouble, too...

Yeah, it can be interpreted that way. My wife's
already planning a celebration though--hopes to
surprise Erynne, I think.
The dreams have been affecting most of us. Lamia's
prison was spelled to hold her in physically, and
keep everyone out. We didn't have time to
add a lot of trimmings. Is Erynne being hit by them
too? It shouldn't be as bad for her. She was out of
the area for a long time.
Are you two planning to leave? I've...asked Erynne not
to go away from Los Angeles until this is resolved.

Until Lamia is dead. We all agree locking her up
again isn't an answer. *bitter little smile*
I think Demetria gave up on that about the time
we found pieces of one clan member in three different
rooms...

*Thinks about it, then says very deliberately* She was hit by the dreams while I wasn't there, not once I was. We have a mental and emotional link that I don't think your Lamia likes...

I'm glad that your family are planning a celebration of Erynne, I think that matters to her a lot - she cares about you.

Afterward, though - you know that I'm not from this dimension? We should be married by the standards of my dimension, too. We'd be likely to leave then, at least for a while - and I don't like Erynne being involved in all this - she's clever and she heals faster than I do but this Lamia can kill Lycanthropes - you've just told me that, and that the Lamia's loose. Wouldn't you rather that Erynne was safe? Because I would!

Yes, I do want her safe. I want my wife, our baby,
our friends to be out of danger too. And the humans
down in Sunnydale that the Bitch is munching on.
Wanting something,unfortunately, doesn't mean that
we get it!
I'm no clairvoyant or great mage, Sweet, but things
happen for a reason. Almost anyone could have
found Lamia's cage. Or been the one to face off with
her afterward...but, I don't think it's just anyone
who can deal with this. We tried. Once the thrall
set in, most of us could hardly think straight. I know
Icouldn't have managed that trick Erynne played
on Lamia to get her to go back to the caves.

And the bitch is getting stronger all the time. No telling how far away would be 'safe' if she isn't
stopped soon. You want Erynne safe? Find a way to
get rid of that monster.

I guess everyone wants the people they love to be safe and happy. Erynne does, I know. She may need to know that they are to be happy herself - and that gives me a stake in this.

I'm not going to give you any argument about why things happen. Some of my work *shrugs* kinda based on the idea that some people have destinies, and need things cleared away to let them carry them out. I can find it difficult to think too much about "manifest destinies" that somebody can interfere with - but the philosophy of it isn't my problem.

The part that is my problem ... sometimes immortal doesn't mean much. There's ways to kill every creature I know of. You've told me that Lamia can kill lycanthropes and I won't have Erynne put in danger. How can the Lamia be killed?

Believe me, if I knew how, it would be done already.
We tried everything, when she first showed up. No kind
of weapon or magic we used did any real good. She
even healed when someone took an axe and all but cut
her head off! We can hurt her,but it doesn't cause
any lasting harm. Give it a few minutes, and she's good
as new.

'Metria's been observing her more closely than any of
us,but even she hasn't seen anything that might be a
fatal weakness. She thinks one handicap of Lamia's may
be mental, not physical; claustrophobia. Fear of being
confined, or possibly being thralled herself. That would
make a kind of sense...*sighs*

We've gone through every record and bit of information
we ,or the other clans on the North American continent,
could get ahold of. It's going to take something that's
not in the books, and I don't know what. If you've got
any magic or surprises up your sleeve, brother-in-law,
now would be a good time!

There has to be a way to kill her ... or maybe to make her kill herself.

I do have some tricks, Brother-in Law, and something her age could have a long, troubled past. *very evil grin* That fast healing could be a problem - but suppose she was burned, right down to dust? Burning works on the drones, and magic fire is real hot.

This dimension has some interesting stuff, too. Suppose she was exploded, say? I should talk to Demetria, too, I guess. But claustrophobia? How did she get in and out when she killed your pack-member? Can she be shut in? I mean without real specialized magic or technical stuff - can she teleport?

As to the rest, she might fear thrall, at that. She got into Erynne's dreams - like I told you, we've got a real strong tele-empathatic link. The Lamia backed off fast when she sensed that. I might be able to sense more if I get close enough to read her... Maybe that could be arranged...
