I've met Grant Douglas in several dimensions now, and he's always been good at what he does. I was prepared for almost any reaction when I explained the situation, but he just nodded.

He told me that his boarding house wasn't warded when we arrived, and we talked about doing the job together, later. He'd arranged to go to a wedding with one of his guests and was just leaving, but casting those wards would be tricky.

The wrong wording was likely to keep me out, as Dementria had found, earlier. It might even trap me in the building. Keeping out mental influences, illusion spells and thralls might not be a good idea - they were our enemy's weapons - but they're my weapons, too - and now I was in range I thought I could make her a very unhappy snake.

I didn't know how well things would work out, but after the full moon ended Erynne woke looking relaxed for the first time in too long...

I did this time. Did Old Snaky bother you? I wasn't sure if she might try it when I slept myself - you look rested.

I feel a lot better. Whatever she did
--I don't feel ill or in pain now. The physical
effects might've been limited to full moon
nights, I think. So the worst of it should be
over, and I heal fast.

Do you remember much about the first night we slept here? She tried to atack your mind again then, but she's within my mojo range now - I got at her for it. Did you get any bad effects from that?

I might be able to do more than scare her, if she tries that on you again. You know that my mojo makes surface emotions stronger, and gets the customers to sing about it?

The trick is to get the right emotions to surface... Old Snaky's lived long enough to have piled up a lot of misery. She could find herself a real unhappy snake.
