At the hospital
Oct. 30th, 2003 09:59 pmSo far, the gig side of things hasn't gone all that well. The raid on the laboratory was far better, when it comes to clients. At least Erynne has been enjoying some of the site-seeing.
One of the things Erynne was worried about was whether they'd taken blood and tissue samples when the baby was born. I'd even had a nightmare about it - but that's enough to worry anyone. In the past you could thrall the midwife under pain of cursing.
They didn't dare do things like that, anyway. Witch-craft trials and such. Now, though, they do things that would've had the Witchfinder General after them, their families and their neighbourhoods.
(I used the mojo to check, when we got to the hospital. One doctor sang about Nanosurgery. There is nothing new under the suns. He wanted to make Homunculi! One of the dreams of Alchemists through the ages.
If he wanted to make lead into gold as well he didn't bother to sing about it, but it sounded as though they were doing better with the Homunculi, in this age, than they had in any other.
Cloning and gene-tailoring? It suddenly reminded me of something in the underground place, but we were too busy back then and I couldn't "pin the memories down")
They had taken the samples, and we had to go to another hospital to do something about that. It made it simpler that they'd already made the tests that they were officially supposed to be doing.
It took just a touch of illusion and a hard push of mojo to get the tech to sing about the findings. Erynne was pleased to know that the kid was clear of a nasty bunch of diseases.
Once I thought about it, I was listening hard. We've been operating "the Queen Clause" for a while now. We know the genetics of it - but Erynne's a 'changer, not a human. She also doesn't want children, but things change.
Ciaomhe has a 'changer father, and it sounds as though there's no differences between her and a human baby. None that the humans can spot, anyway. I guess that's reassuring.
The samples were supposed to go to the incinerator, and the Tech had left them where they'd be burned. I smoked in and got what was left of the samples after he went out. Better to be safe.
Afterward I took Erynne up the Hospital tower.
